The modern development of language study can be attributed to the works of renowned linguists in the field of linguistic studies and these developments can further be termed as “New Trends” in the field of linguistics which hitherto brought an immense development in the area of human language study. This paper will, in this discussion, try to analyze some of the sub-fields of linguistics which helped to develop natural human languages. The discussion on this will however, highlight on Corpus linguistics, Behaviourist linguistics, Historical linguistics Critical linguistics, Anthropological linguistics and Cognitive linguistics among others. In its findings, this paper stated how these different linguists and their individual fields have contributed immensely to the modern development of language study.
